Hardwood Floor Water Damage

You want to make sure and prevent hardwood floor water damage or water stains on your precious hardwood floors but sometimes it's not at all possible. Someone will likely spill some water or a lot of water on your hardwood flooring at some time or other. But there is a lot you can do if this does happen.  From taking care of the small water spills yourself or hiring a hardwood floor water damage specialist in the event of the major spills or any flooding.  And even a hardwood floor contractor can help you with advice and referrals. If you don't know one, you can get local referrals in your area here: Find a Tile/Flooring Contractor

If you have been taking care of your hardwood floor's finishing properly, then spilling water or any form of liquid onto it shouldn't be much of a major problem, as long as you wipe the spill up just as soon as possible but if your floor coating has thinned out and the liquid has been there for any length of time then you should start to think of how you are going to restore it.

Water is the worst possible thing for your hardwood floors. It can really damage the floor's luster. You can fix this easily by mopping up the affected area. In the worse cases, water can seep right into the woodwork and cause some major decay and warping.

When you are wiping the floor, use only soft, dry cloths or rags. Using scratchy or coarse cleaning materials will scratch the flooring's sensitive surface and thin out the finishing. If you're working with a puddle of any size, start with the edges of the puddle first and work your way carefully back toward the middle of it.

Some people try to use steam cleaners to deal with water spills, but this is not a good idea. Because not all steam cleaners are compatible with hardwood floors. You want to make sure to check the compatibility first or you might cause more a lot more harm than is good to your floor. It doesn't matter what kind of a stain is present, but never use wet cloths for clean-up issues. And no slightly wet mops should ever be used, this is especially true for hardwood floors that are sealed and coated with any type of wax.

Your very first line of defense against the pain of dealing with water stains and hardwood floor water damage is to be very careful not to spill anything on the flooring. You can't watch your floor every minute of course but you can be watchful about protecting your floor from any water. Liquid and water stains are definitely inevitable.   You want to make sure that your floor is waxed regularly and the finishing is reapplied periodically. Taking care of yor floor properly will provide you with many years of enjoyment.
